Remember all those aspirational goals you had for your business at
the beginning of the year? “2022 is going to be different. It’s a New
Year/New Me!” All those New Year’s Resolutions made; all those business
plans set. Now it’s March, and the kids need to be taken to soccer practice. You
have to speak at your Great Aunt Mildred’s birthday. The Great
Resignation just cost you your VP of Sales. And you are rethinking your
business idea. What was that saying? “The best-laid plans…”?
This March, how can we let go of the madness and reignite our business plans before Q1 – and 2022 – are over? Catherine Mattiske is a global business educator and founder of The Performance Company, a leading training and consulting organization that has worked with Fortune 100 companies around the world. She shares three quick growth mindset steps for causing a Q1 March Mini-Reset to refocus, reinvigorate, and reignite your 2022 business plans.
Where are we at? Have we started to deliver on our plan for the calendar
year? What’s going on? Where’s the rubber hitting the road? Hmm – well,
we’re not where we planned we’d be, but at least we now know where we
stand.
We get it – things happen, and life gets in the way. So breathe deeply,
and repeat after me: “It’s okay.” We’re human and definitely not the
only ones whose plans got sidetracked. But we can either allow things to
continue or draw a line in the sand.
How can we get our plans back on track? What are we now going to do for
our growth strategy, for our people? To move into your circle of
influence, think through new options and ways to focus on what you can
change and park the rest. Then ask yourself, how can we salvage, scrap,
or forget Q1 and be in full gear when Q2 begins?
“Let’s take ownership of the fact that we’ve had January and February,
and we’re at that place we’re at. We lost the plot there, the wheels
fell off there, but my goodness, we made some gains here. So now let’s
start resetting our thinking around those three things.”
“Our business plan may have gone a little off the rails these first two
months, but let’s get back on track and get our roadmap underway so we
can achieve our long-term business goals together.”
“How can we collaborate with new and fresh people as part of our
mini-reset? Who in the organization haven’t you talked to that perhaps
you should? Whom should you be having a coffee chat with on Zoom that
perhaps you’ve never met? Fresh new ideas and perspectives will be sure
to help us as we reengage our 2022 business plan.”
